How it all started?

The idea of PepPill traces back to the early 2010s when the e-commerce industry started to flourish. This section shows how PepPill was formed to help consumers in buying medicines, to enable pharmacists in managing their pharmacies better.

People wanted to buy everything from the comfort of home, without stepping out anywhere. And, internet and smartphones made a huge impact by connecting consumers and businesses. E-commerce in the area of electronics, fashion, and home utilities, was well established by the early 2010s. But it was not ready for the healthcare industry then. This is when we stepped in and started to get ready with an application to connect consumers with pharmacies.

The key consumer pain points identified

People may not get the exact medicine in a pharmacy when they visit the shop to buy specific medicines. The shops may offer the customer with some substitute medicines, but the customer may not be willing to accept the substitute. The customer may finally get the exact medicine mentioned on the prescription only after going to many pharmacies. This causes great inconvenience because customers waste their time in searching for medicines, amidst the traffic and waiting queue.

The modern age treatment protocols encouraged each doctor to prescribe different medicines, although with the same composition. One doctor may prescribe a specific medicine, but another doctor in some other area may not prescribe the same. So, a patient travelling places would also require that specific medicine till the end of treatment period.

Another major factor influencing the birth of PepPill was the need for expensive medicines prescribed by doctors. Healthcare was already highly developed at the start of 21st century, and new medicines were being discovered after extensive research. Patients with complex medical conditions at hospitals may be prescribed with these complex drug products. In such cases, the hospital pharmacy itself may not have the exact medicine in stock. And visiting every pharmacy in the locality would also not help. This is when the idea sparked to enable consumers in getting whatever medicines easily.

A new beginning in healthcare and e-commerce

We started to understand the customer expectations when it comes to buying medicines. Our expertise in Healthcare and Information Technology helped us to quickly design the PepPill mobile application to buy medicines from neighborhood pharmacies. We released the PepPill mobile application on Google Play under Beta Release. Similarly, we also released the PepPill Store mobile application for pharmacies on Google Play under Beta Release. The consumer app was used to place prescription drug orders and get the medicines from the nearby pharmacies. Seeing the requirement for pill reminders and medication trackers from consumers, we also implemented those features. Later we also released the PepPill app on iOS App Store too.

The need for quality pharmacy management realized

The consumers were happy on getting the medicines without hustling through the city traffic. But, the pharmacies themselves were not equipped with complete pharmacy management systems. Thus, the we entered into the pharmacy management market. We started to gather the requirements of pharmacies and analyze what it takes to runs their daily operations and understand their business.

The rise of cloud-based pharmacy management solution

We began the development of PepPill Store, a cloud-based application focusing on pharmacy management. The application slowly saw the emergence of features such as Cloud POS, Inventory Management, and Reports.

The cloud advantage gave the power to operate the application from anywhere. Thereby, the store operations can be continuously monitored.

We are PepPill. We are now a complete cloud-based pharmacy management system. And, we offer consumers the power to buy medicines from local pharmacies. The pharmacy owners can expand their store presence and add up their business revenue. Also, PepPill offers additional benefits for consumers such as pill reminders, medication trackers, and a demand list for pharmacies.

PepPill Store, the exclusive product for pharmacists, provides a built-in drug database for pharmacies (20,000+ drugs included). This database is verified and regularly updated by PepPill pharmacists. This helps the pharmacists to learn about the uses, dosage, side-effects, contraindications, and molecular compositions of different drugs.
